Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is hoping to offer a new contract to star striker Lautaro Martinez before the January transfer window opens, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

The report details how the Nerazzurri management are anticipating a possible move from Spanish giants Barcelona on the 22-year-old striker, who is going through a strong run of form so far this season.

The €111 million release clause suddenly doesn’t seem inaccessible, and therefore Marotta is hoping to offer a new contract without the clause attached.

The report also highlights how Lautaro will be offered higher wages – around €3 million net per season plus bonuses, with the figure set to rise over the years, until 2024. Included in the new contract will be a new release clause, with the figure estimated to be €222 million, in order to protect the Argentine from interested parties.

Finally, the report suggests that the meeting between the club and Lautaro’s agent Beto Yaquè will take place before Christmas but after the end of the Champions League group stage.
