Inter are deep in talks with Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, but they are still waiting to see if Chelsea will let the Frenchman leave in January, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia.

The report details how the Nerazzurri are keen to sign the 33-year-old French striker in order to provide backup to former Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku. Conte is keen to add more squad depth in order to keep up the title race with league leaders Juventus.

However, the South London club are debating letting the player leave in January, the report highlights, but are unsure as they wouldn’t be able to sign a replacement thanks to the ongoing transfer ban on the club.

Furthermore, Giroud is asking for a two-and-a-half-year contract at Inter, although Inter CEO Beppe Marotta would prefer a shorter 18-month contract, the report continues. The only other club close to the Frenchman is German side Borussia Dortmund.
