Inter are still searching for a striker in the upcoming January transfer window, although the injury to Genoa’s Christian Kouame has left Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud as the primary option, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how initially the Nerazzurri were keen to sign the 21-year-old Ivorian forward, but the ACL tear he suffered with the Under-23 Ivory Coast squad has ruined Inter’s plans, forcing them to look elsewhere. The injury also makes it difficult to re-sign 20-year-old Italian Andrea Pinamonti from the Ligurian club, as coach Thiago Motta will be keen to retain the player in order to keep the squad’s attacking department consistent.

Therefore, Inter’s primary option at the moment is 33-year-old French striker Olivier Giroud. The player has only made six appearances for the South London club so far this season under coach Frank Lampard and is hoping for a move away in order to earn more playing time ahead of next summer’s European Championships. The only issue is convincing the Blues to part with the striker despite the fact that they won’t be able to sign a replacement due to the ongoing transfer ban.
