Initial Assessments Show Inter Midfielder Nicolo Barella Has Sprained His Right Knee

Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella limped off the pitch at the end of the first half last night in the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over Torino, with a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting that he has suffered a sprain to his right knee.

The report details how the 22-year-old Italian landed awkwardly after challenging for the ball, before limping off the pitch looking in extreme difficulty. He reportedly told coach Antonio Conte that he “heard a crack from my knee.”

The player has undergone medical examinations today, with the initial results showing that he has avoided injuring his knee ligaments, vital in order to avoid a long rehabilitation period, the report continues.

Barella has been a vital player for the Nerazzurri so far this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 16 appearances. A serious injury to the player would be incredibly problematic for Conte, as his midfield options are already limited thanks to the injuries to Stefano Sensi and Roberto Gagliardini.
