Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella has undergone medical examinations today to discover the extent of the injury he suffered against Torino last night, with the tests showing that the injury will require surgery, according to a post on the Inter website.

The post details how the 22-year-old Italian underwent clinical and instrumental examinations this morning at the Istituto Humanitas, which have shown that he has sprained his right knee. However, he will have to undergo surgery, as he suffered a detachment of a cartilage fragment of the patella. The fragment will therefore have to be removed.

This will not be welcome news for Inter coach Antonio Conte, due to the already limited midfield options available to him. Barella has now joined the list of injured Nerazzurri midfielders, alongside Stefano Sensi and Roberto Gagliardini, and will be unavailable for Inter’s vital Champions League clash against Slavia Prague on Tuesday.

Barella has appeared in every Inter game so far this season, clocking up 1160 minutes over 17 appearances.
