Borja Valero should be granted his first start of the season in Wednesday’s Champions League group stage match against Slavia Prague according to a report in today’s print edition of Tuttosport.
The 34-year-old Spaniard was given just his second appearance of the season as he took the place of Nicolo Barella during Saturday night’s 3-0 victory away to Torino.
The veteran will play alongside Marcelo Brozovic and Matias Vecino in the midfield away in the Czech capital but it remains to be seen whether he will get more gametime after this match.
Roberto Gagliardini is expected to make a return from injury just shortly as is Stefano Sensi, which would push Valero back down the pecking order.
The report from the Turin newspaper goes on to explain that in the meantime, both Antonio Candreva and Kwadwo Asamoah could be used in the midfield. Candreva was used in the midfield for a little while against Torino whilst Asamoah is very expereinced in the middle of the park.
