Speaking in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has provided an update on what the future holds for Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa.
Firstly however, the Inter chief executive sang the praises of Lautaro Martinez, who has a chance to score for the fourth straight Champions League match against Slavia Prague.
“Lautaro has become increasingly confident and mature, especially for a 23-year-old, so he really has a great career ahead of him.”
He then spoke on what has been learned from the collapse against Borussia Dortmund in the last Champions League game.
“The Dortmund game showed us how much we need to improve, as we had a splendid first half and didn’t confirm it in the second. That need for consistency and maturity goes for the whole team as well as the individuals.
“From the start of the season, we always talked about a new model that required constant growth. We’re seeing it in Serie A, a little less so in the Champions League, but these players can become champions by gaining that experience over time at both club and international level.”
He then spoke on Gabigol’s future, which would appear to be away from Milan.
“We see Gabigol in the same way that we see Lautaro. He is a player who is growing year by year. His loan ends in December, after that we will carefully evaluate what to do with him. It’s unlikely he’ll be part of our project, but he has several offers and we’ll evaluate them all carefully along with him.”
