Inter coach Antonio Conte will deploy star striker Lautaro Martinez today against SPAL due to his incredible form so far this season, despite being overdue for a rest, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 22-year-old Argentine striker has scored 11 goals so far this season in 18 appearances, matching the numbers set by Samuel Eto’o in the 2010/11 season and by Hernan Crespo in the 2002/03 season. In fact, his numbers are even more impressive that former Inter striker Mauro Icardi’s, who also scored 11 goals at this point in the season.

However, Icardi’s goals were a little inflated due to the fact that three of them came against the Icelandic team Stjarnan in the Europa League playoff, whereas Lautaro has scored five in the Champions League, the report highlights.

Should the Nerazzurri get off to a comfortable lead in the game, it’s likely that Conte will take off Lautaro when possible and replace him with 17-year-old Italian Sebastiano Esposito, giving some much needed rest to the Argentine.
