Inter’s decision to appoint Antonio Conte as their manager is proving to be the right one according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
At the close of the 2018/19 season, Inter relieved Luciano Spalletti off his duties as they looked to take the next step and Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta acted quickly to bring in Conte.
Conte has delivered almost immediate results since taking the reigns with him having Inter currently sitting at the top of Serie A after 14 games played as a result of 12 wins, one draw and a single loss.
The former Italian national team manager has managed to get the best and then some out of several of his players too.
Lautaro Martinez is on fire in front of goal with him having netted 13 goals to date, Stefan de Vrij is starring in the three man defence, Stefano Sensi and Nicolo Barella are showing a tonne of promise in the midfield and he has regenerated the likes of Antonio Candreva, Matias Vecino and Roberto Gagliardini.
Conte’s decision to demand the signing of Romelu Lukaku has also paid off. The Belgian has 11 goals, has formed a partnership with Lautaro Martinez and has become a key player for Conte’s Inter.
Inter started the season with an outside chance of being the main challenger to Juventus but are now firmly the Bianconeri’s biggest rivals for the Serie A title this season thanks to Conte. Issues that previously plagued the Nerazzurri have been extremely rare and in some cases non-existent under Conte’s management.
