In an interview with Inter’s matchday programme for tonight’s match against Roma, former president and owner Ernesto Pellegrini recalled Inter’s 1991 UEFA Cup triumph over the Giallorossi.

“It was a very tough match. In the first leg we played better and won 2-0 but in the return leg in Rome they attacked us for the full 90 minutes but thankfully only managed to score the one goal. Had the Giallorossi won it, they would not have been undeserving,” he said.

He then shared his thoughts on San Siro which faces an uncertain future as the Milanese clubs look to build a new stadium.

“I am fond of it but I understand that the clubs want to invest but I would not leave San Siro.”

Next he spoke on Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“He can be compared to Trapattoni. They are two men who know how to manage the dressing room. Conte has returned enthusiasm to Inter and today they sit top of the table. They need to be careful though as Juventus remain the favourite.”

In conclusion he was asked what he thinks of tonight’s game: “For sure it will be a very hard fought match.”
