Former Inter striker Christian Vieri has shared his views on Inter’s performance in their 2-1 loss to Barcelona, a result which saw them eliminated from the Champions League.
“There are no easy matches in the Champions League, so you have to be focused and try to win them all. Even though Barcelona left so many players at home, it was a difficult match for Inter. The Nerazzurri had chances that could have helped them get a result,” he said in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.
“Inter have been playing every three days for months now so there is a bit of fatigue. If you are not at your physical best it is difficult to have the right lucidity. The team did what they could.”
He then shared his disappointment at some of the refereeing decisions.
“In my opinion, some things the referee did were scandalous. Lukaku and Lautaro kept getting fouled and Barcelona’s two centre backs were never booked. They had to be booked. They were making fouls but the referee never got the yellow card out for either of them.”
He concluded by discussing Inter’s looming Europa League campaign.
“Inter must try to win all the games which they play in. The big teams have to try to win game after game and have to rotate, even if I do not know if Inter can do it.”
