Italian media outlet PassioneInter.com interviewed exclusively Andreas Engelmark, the youth coach of Inter transfer target Dejan Kulusevski, who coached the Swedish midfielder during his time in the youth teams of Brommapojkarna.

He began with what he remembers of the midfielder from his time in Sweden.

“Dejan has always been ambitious and a great talent. Always ready to learn and become a better player every day. He’s always been good both in dribbling and in playing the ball with his teammates. He’s been improving through hard work and defensive growth. Then he’s a good person and has always wanted to win.”

The Swedish coach was impressed by Kulusevski’s growth during his time in Italy.

“It’s always difficult to know how much a player will be able to show off in the early stages of his career. But I always thought he’d get to a high level. He has impressed everyone and will continue to do so.”

Engelmark suggested that the player is always keen to progress with his career.

“Yes, I’m still talking to him and we’ve always been in touch. Let’s say he’s always dreamed of playing at the highest level and for the top clubs, but I’m not sure he’s interested in a specific club.”

The Swedish coach highlighted how regular playing time is incredibly important for Kulusevski.

“Inter is obviously a top club. I think he could already have a big impact. But I also think he wants to play and that’s the most important thing for a young player. So it will be important to take this into account if he decides to leave Parma or Atalanta.”

He compared the 19-year-old midfielder to a current star.

“He’s strong both physically and technically. A mix of Robben when it comes to dribbling, and Ilicic when it comes to power.”

Finally, Engelmark spoke about a quote from Kulusevski, where he was discussing how the current young generation of players will change football forever.

“He has a strong character certainly. He’s a humble person, but at the same time he strongly believes in himself.”
