Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is no longer a priority for Inter in the upcoming January transfer window, with his teammate Marcos Alonso being identified as a more important goal, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 33-year-old French striker wants a contract of at least 18 months at Inter with a salary that the Nerazzurri aren’t willing to match, due to his age and more backup role behind main striker Romelu Lukaku. The player is keen to find regular playing time in order to make France’s squad in next summer’s European Championships.

Therefore, the report highlights, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is instead focusing on acquiring 28-year-old Spanish full back Marcos Alonso instead. The player is at the top of coach Antonio Conte’s wish list, due to the need to sign another full back in order to strengthen Conte’s options in the role.
