Italian Report Criticises Inter’s Decision To Cancel Coach Antonio Conte’s Press Conference Yesterday

A report in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has criticised Inter’s decision to cancel their press conference yesterday, following on from an abusive article aimed at coach Antonio Conte that was published in Friday’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The letter, signed by journalist Stefano Barigelli, details why the newspaper is upset at the Nerazzurri’s decision.

“Mao, in one of his most famous maxims reserved for those who dared to criticise him, said that you had to hit one to educate one hundred. It was a different China and also a different world. The decision to cancel Conte’s press conference as an exemplary and preventive sanction for all the media has the same bitter taste of summary injustice. If the reason was an offensive letter that appeared (among other things two days ago) in a newspaper, it was enough to limit the response to the newspaper itself.”

The letter continued, suggesting that punishing all the media rather than only the Corriere dello Sport was a mistake.

“Punishing everyone, and explaining in the statement that it is a ‘message’ addressed to the entire community of those who deal with the Nerazzurri, is not from Inter. A club who earned general sympathy even when they did not win. In fact, especially when they didn’t win. Losing in the Champions League is not serious. To lose one’s spirit is to lose.”
