Inter midfielder Borja Valero discussed the Nerazzurri’s tough 1-1 draw against Fiorentina last night in an interview with Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, after the final whistle.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t win, which was the most important thing. It could have been my last game at this stadium. We couldn’t win and that’s a shame. We’re tired, some players are playing every game, but we can’t make excuses. Now let’s win the next game to end the year in style.”

The 34-year-old Spaniard then touched on the mindset of coach Antonio Conte.

“Conte understood the moment we were in after the elimination in the Champions League, he immediately thought about today’s match, which we had to win today to return immediately to the top level and immediately return to see this through for the Champions League and the Scudetto.”

The Nerazzurri’s draw last night didn’t see them drop down to second place, due to their superior goal difference to rivals and reigning champions Juventus, who beat Udinese 3-1 yesterday.
