Inter and AC Milan management made it clear to Milan city council in this afternoon’s meeting that they see no way in which keeping San Siro can work according to a report from Italian news agency ANSA.

As part of their new stadium project the two clubs wished to entirely demolish San Siro in order to make way for commercial spaces, hotels and offices among other things.

The Milan city council were however not so fond of the idea and are trying to ensure that San Siro remains standing. The clubs are against the idea due to the fact that the two stadiums would be so close to one another.

They presented a study which showed it is not viable to run two big stadiums so close next to one another. One of the reasons given was all of the extra disruption that two events being on at once could cause.

The clubs are also against the idea of San Siro remaining standing for use as a venue for women’s and youth football as ticket prices would be far too low to justify keeping the stadium running.
