Dries Mertens still hopes to sign a contract extension with Napoli despite interest in his services elsewhere according to a report from Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Belgian’s current deal with the Stadio San Paolo club is due to expire at the end of the current campaign and Borussia Dortmund are understood to have offered him a contract.

Other reports in the media have meanwhile suggested Inter have shown an interest as have several Chinese Super League clubs.

Napoli, as per Di Marzio, have offered the 32-year-old a new two year contract, which would keep him with the club until the end of the 2020/21 season.

They have offered him the same salary he is currently on plus a signing on fee but it is understood that there is some distance between what Mertens wants compared to what Napoli have offered.

This season Mertens has scored nine goals and given four assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.
