Genoa coach Thiago Motta discussed the Rossoblu’s 4-0 loss to Inter in the Serie Atonight in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia, moments after the final whistle.

“We started the match and couldn’t attack, then after the first goal it was harder to manage the game against a team that is playing for the Scudetto.”

The 37-year-old coach touched on the performance of his players tonight.

“My reference is my players, I’m proud of what they tried to do even in difficult situations. They always try to give 100%, even if tonight the result is bad. We tried to play but Inter put us in trouble.”

He refused to answer whether or not he had met the club’s president, Enrico Preziosi.

“I’m thinking of my players, as I said before. I saw them sad about losing and I will always have time to meet with the club.”

Motta didn’t believe that the players looked dejected or complacent.

“I disagree. They made some mistakes, also because I asked them to always start from the back with the ball on the ground and attack, trying to push the team forward. There were technical mistakes, but they can be overcome. Inter immediately put us in trouble and we weren’t able to impose our game, they’re fighting for the Scudetto with Juve.”

Finally, Motta discussed rumours from the Uruguayan press that Diego Lopez would be replacing him as the coach of the club.

“I can’t wait to see the Uruguayan press. Anyway, I’m proud of my work, even if it’s strange considering the results. Something has to be changed, I have to do it first, and I know something can be done. The relationship with management? I repeat, the daily relationship with the players reassures me, the rest is of little concern to me.”
