Inter striker Sebastiano Esposito is Inter’s youngest starter in a Serie A match in the 21st Century, according to a report from Inter’s official website today.

The Italian striker started yesterday’s game at 17 years and 172 days old, taking the record from previous holder Mario Balotelli, who made his first Nerazzurri start when he was 17 years and 203 days old against Napoli in March of 2008.

Yesterday’s 4-0 win over Genoa also saw Esposito score his first goal for the club, after his striking partner Romelu Lukaku gave him the penalty. The goal meant a lot to the Italian teenager, who went over to the stands to celebrate it with his mother. He was seen with tears in his eyes after the game, showing how much Lukaku’s gesture meant to the player.

Esposito has made seven appearances for the Nerazzurri so far this season, with coach Antonio Conte regularly praising the hard work of the teenager.
