A report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport has analysed the performance of Luca Pairetto, the referee in Inter’s 4-0 win over Genoa last night.

The report details how the 35-year-old Italian referee called only 23 fouls in last night’s game, showing a slightly tense atmosphere between the two teams in the San Siro. He gave five yellow cards in the game, one every 4.6 fouls called, a high average. Four of those yellow cards were for Genoa, who often looked caught out and on the back foot in last night’s game.

However, Pairetto missed two important yellow cards, the report highlights. The first of which should have been given to Italian forward Andrea Pinamonti, when he struck Inter defender Stefan De Vrij in the face with his arm.

The second yellow card should have been given to Genoa defender Cristian Romero, who committed a hand ball in an attacking movement. Considering he was already booked 90 seconds before, the second yellow card could have changed the game.

Finally, the report suggests that the penalty awarded to Inter for the foul on Roberto Gagliardini was clear. Genoa midfielder Kevin Agudelo did foul the Inter midfielder without getting the ball, with the yellow card the correct call.
