Legendary Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic has shared his delight upon being named the manager of Red Star Belgrade.
“I’m excited. I like challenges, I don’t run away from my responsibilities. It will be difficult, every job in this world is difficult,” he explained in an interview with Serbian news outlet Novosti.
“Imagine the privilege I have now and how honoured I am to have the opportunity to manage Red Star. I have to thank the people at the club.
“I had a good contract with Inter, I took charge of all the youth levels and I put together a scouting programme. A month and a half ago, I could not have imagined that I would become the manager of Red Star.”
He also spoke on the support he has received from his family.
“I have been abroad for 22 years and it was as if I had never left here. Without the support of my wife Anna and my three children, I would never have accepted the offer.
“I was able to explain to them what I was feeling, they saw my energy and they accompanied me to Serbia with a big smile and happiness. It is important to feel that moment when you leave home. They will stay in Milan and I will be in Belgrade. It is a sacrifice, but the Red Star is worth this sacrifice.”
