In today’s print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport have compared Romelu Lukaku’s season to how the man he replaced, Mauro Icardi, has fared this season, following the comments of his wife and agent Wanda Icardi.

Both players have netted 14 goals across all competitions this season. Icardi has scored five in the Champions League to Lukaku’s two whilst Lukaku has more Serie A goals than Icardi does in Ligue 1.

Other than the goals scored stat, many, if not all of the other relevant stats for strikers are in favour of 26-year-old Lukaku, who joined Inter in a club record transfer this past Summer from Manchester United.

He has touched the ball far more times per match on average than Icardi, has a better pass completion rate, has created twice the number of scoring chances for teammates, he covers a far greater area of the pitch, runs more per game and has four times as many successful dribbles.
