Inter are preparing for a possible departure of former Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin in January, following on from rumours that the Uruguayan is keen to return to Spain, according to a report in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The report details how Godin’s entourage has been quick to deny the rumours that the player is keen to leave the Milanese club only six months after arriving from Spain, but the Nerazzurri are still preparing for a potential departure anyway.
The top name Inter are considering is 30-year-old Parma full back Matteo Darmian, the report continues. The player has been followed by the Nerazzurri’s management for some time, considering his ability to play as both a full back and a centre back in a back three. Despite the fact that Inter are also interested in Chelsea full back Marcos Alonso, the two players would be considered for different roles.
Whilst Alonso would be considered as an alternative to Danilo D’Ambrosio as a full back or wing back, the report highlights, Darmian would be deployed in the back three, a role he’s already comfortable with.
