Former Inter forward Alessandro Altobelli spoke about the Nerazzurri’s season so far and their transfer market objectives in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Il Giorno.
“I’m happy that the club and the coach are considering players for January, it means Inter are first, but they know they have to do something more to get to the end. The names that are talked about are those that serve the project. Conte, when he chooses the players, knows that they have to be good, but they have to be integrated into a certain squad.”
He spoke briefly about Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, who has been widely linked with Inter over the past few weeks.
“If he’s the right player? He is not a long-term investment, but a short one. Inter are first and must try to reach the end of the league in the same position. You need someone like the Chilean precisely because it’s not a project to win in three or four years.”
Altobelli then touched on which full back he thinks Inter should sign, as well as any potential forwards.
“In that position I would suggest Marcos Alonso, who has already played at Italy and can fit with Inter. Asamoah is a good player, like Biraghi, but the Spaniard has something more. I would not sign someone for attack, for example. You have to consider that Sanchez will return, and that Esposito is growing, in addition to the partnership of Lukaku-Lautaro. Very strong players and I don’t think they’ll move them.”
The 64-year-old Italian discussed the title race against Juventus.
“Inter are first despite many injuries, from Barella to Sensi, up to Sanchez and Asamoah. They have had five or six major injuries. If they recover them and a couple more players are added, you can think that Inter can win. Of course, we have to understand what Juve will do, if they strengthen the Bianconeri too, the situation will change.”
Finally, Altobelli spoke about the increasing amount of Italians in Inter’s squad.
“I am one of those who would like a strong, winning team and if it is made up of Italians even better. Juve often wins because they have a strong group of Italians. Inter now have Sensi, Barella, Candreva, Biraghi, there are those who form the main points. They’re a team that play for a jersey. Would I have liked to have been coached by Conte? It’s been many years since I retired, but I think all the players today would like to be coached by Conte. He’s tough, but he knows football, he’s a winner. But I had Bersellini and I was fine with him.”
