Inter would only look to sign Parma defender Matteo Darmian if former Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin leaves the club in January, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 30-year-old Italian, who joined Parma from Manchester United in the summer, would only be signed by the Nerazzurri if a central defender left, with the player not being considered for the full back role in coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system.

Considering Inter’s back line, the report continues, the only defender likely to leave the club in January would be Godin. Rumours have been circulating that the Uruguayan defender is dreaming of a return back to Spain to play with Atletico again, potentially due to his uncomfortableness in playing in a back three rather than a back four. If Godin does leave, then Inter would consider signing Darmian from the Emilian club.
