Inter received a boost in their bid to sign Olivier Giroud today as France boss Didier Deschamps advised the forward to leave Chelsea.

Giroud has made just three starts for Frank Lampard’s side all season and is thought to be keen on a January departure.

Antonio Conte signed the 33-year-old for Chelsea in 2018 with multiple reports suggesting he is keen on a reunion in Milan.

Speaking to TF1, Deschamps said: “It would be good for the national team if Giroud left Chelsea, but it benefits him as well.

“He’s not happy about the amount of game time he’s had [this season]. He knows his situation needs to improve and he can’t settle for playing this little.

“It’s up to him to decide what the best destination would be. He knows what’s best for him.”

Giroud scored five goals under Conte during the second half of the 2017-18 season, including two en route to the Blues’ triumph in the FA Cup.
