Inter CEO Beppe Marotta stopped by Italian broadcaster DAZN before kick-off in the Serie A clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district when the Nerazzurri host Atalanta.

Marotta was asked about how close Inter were to actually signing Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, suggesting that the Nerazzurri weren’t in any negotiations with the player or the club.

“In this moment, many names are circulating together with many reports that are not truthful, therefore until now there’s not been anything official. It is a poor transfer window in terms of opportunity. We have to improve the group with quality signings.

“Eriksen is an interesting player whose contract expires in June but we haven’t begun negotiations with the club or his agents.”

Marotta went on to insist that Inter weren’t close to signing neither Ashley Young nor Olivier Giroud, who have been widely reported to be on their way to the Nerazzurri.

“In immediate short term we won’t be doing anything. We need to evaluate every single situation because there are objective difficulties. We are top of the league currently and the group needs to be respected.”

“We are not feeling any anxiousness that we have to do something either tomorrow or on Monday, but we find ourselves in the situation that we will take any opportunity that the transfer window offers.”
