Roma have made initial contact with Inter winger Matteo Politano over a potential move following the injury of Nicolo Zaniolo according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

Zaniolo suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Roma’s loss to Juventus yesterday and as a result he will miss the remainder of this season and most likely EURO 2020 as well.

Roma had shown a slight interest in Politano in recent weeks but he has now become a priority for them after Zaniolo’s injury.

They are far from alone in being interest in the former Sassuolo man though as AC Milan, Napoli and Fiorentina have all also drawn links to him in recent weeks.

Politano joined Inter permanently this Summer in a circa €25 million deal from Sassuolo following on from a loan spell but has failed to cement his place in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up this season.

He has made 15 appearances across all competitions but just two of those have come as a starter. He has also failed to make any goal contributions this season.
