Antonio Conte spoke to the gathered media in a post-match press conference at San Siro following Inter’s 4-1 Coppa Italia win over Cagliari.

“I think the greatest satisfaction for me a coach is the fact that we changed formation against a team who are sixth in the league and have a very good squad,” he said.

“There was always the risk that we made a mistake and exited the cup but I had great confidence in the guys who have been giving me great answers since I took over in July.

“We suffered a lot in the first half of the season because of some injuries but here we are and we remain standing and this has empowered everyone.”

He then spoke on some of the players who returned to the side.

“Borja Valero has shown great professionalism despite the fact he did not play a lot in the beginning. I am also happy for Dimarco and Alexis. Everyone gave very good answers on the pitch.”

Next he was asked about the club’s aspirations of winning some silverware.

“We have to think game by game knowing that there is a lot to improve upon. We have to be realistic. We have started a journey and we are seeing good things but there is still a lot to do before we are able to able to win things.

“We have just started our journey and there are others much further ahead of us because they have been on their journeys for the past few years.

“We have important ideas and we must manage to carry it out for the whole game. We have to get better at everything we do before aiming to win. Now is not the time to think about it and it would not be fair either. Having said that, we play to win every game.”

He was then asked about the transfer market.

“There are situations that need to be carefully evaluated, there may be some outgoing transfers. There is no money to spend. I have shared my ideas with the club management. We will have to make certain deals because we know that we need to abide by the rules of Financial Fair play. We want to strengthen ourselves to become more ready.”
