Former Inter and Juventus forward Roberto Boninsegna discussed the title race and the Nerazzurri squad in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

“The fate of the league will probably be decided in the clash in Turin, that game may prove decisive. You can’t miss a beat, Juve will take advantage of it right away. Of course, if Inter completed their squad…”

The 76-year-old Italian spoke about Inter coach Antonio Conte and his transfer requests.

“Perhaps you should manage everything within the team, but it falls within the character sphere of a coach. It’s also true that Inter absolutely needs a backup to Lukaku, an injury to him would create a problem.

“That’s why someone like Giroud would be perfect among the alternatives. A big purchase for Conte’s squad. Because Esposito is a guy with a great future, but he can’t be held responsible right now.

The management has understood that Inter are still missing something, they have to satisfy the coach. Because Conte, if things don’t go well, he could always say ‘I said so.’”

Boninsegna then spoke about Juventus’ attack and the differences between them and Inter’s attack.

“Higuain is the most important man at Juve. He makes his teammates play well too, you can tell. Dybala comes in a lot and Ronaldo is one who starts a lot in the league.

“So, the department fits in perfectly. Lukaku starts many metres from the goal, with Lautaro Martinez they are forming a great pair. They have perfect characteristics, on the field they get along well with each other. They were able to replace Icardi well, that’s the important thing.

Finally, Boninsegna touched on the Nerazzurri’s midfield and their moves on the transfer market.

“Eriksen can play several roles in midfield, it’s important that someone joins. Inter need a real fighter which maybe they don’t have. Someone like Medel, to say someone who already has this shirt on. If you find a strong trequartista in the opposing team it gets very tough. It would take one at Furino, to be precise.”
