Former Italian referee Luca Marelli discussed the performance of the referee, Piero Giacomelli, in today’s 1-1 draw between Inter and Lecce in an interview on Italian radio show Tutti Convocati.

“Giacomelli was terrible in the first half, better instead in the second half,” Marelli said.

“Let’s talk about Romelu Lukaku’s goal: I don’t see where the foul was. There’s definitely no infringement on Gabriel.

“I can’t understand the decision to only give a yellow card to Giulio Donati either; he did a horrible foul and almost hurt Nicolo Barella.”

Marelli then discussed the penalty call for Lecce that Giacomelli reversed after seeing the incident on the pitch side monitor.

“Stefano Sensi’s arm is attached to his body so it’s never a penalty,” he confirmed.

“The curious thing is that at that moment Giacomelli had fallen and whistled practically from the ground.”

The Nerazzurri are still second in the league table despite the points dropped today, but they are only one point ahead of 3rd place Lazio, who have a game in hand.
