Inter Defender Stefan De Vrij: “Maybe We Need To Pick Up The Pace & Play Faster”

Inter defender Stefan de Vrij spoke to Inter TV following the Nerazzurri’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Lecce earlier today.

“Obviously there is a lot of disappointment for the points dropped, we wanted the win,” he said.

“We looked for it, unfortunately we didn’t succeed. They defended well. It’s a shame that we didn’t manage to keep the lead.”

The 27-year-old Dutchman then touched on the difficulties the Nerazzurri found in the game.

“We expected this kind of defensive game from Lecce, especially given their formation and their recent downturn in form,” he explained.

“They sat deep hoping to counterattack and frustrate us. We crossed a lot but we didn’t manage to become more dangerous.

“We played almost always in their half, for us defenders it’s important to get organised and when they play the ball long, we have to be ready to intercept it.”

Finally, De Vrij spoke about what the squad did well and learnt from the game.

“We were good at the start and we played in their half trying to score. Maybe we need to pick up the pace and play faster and create more confusion for the opponents.”
