Premier League giants Manchester City have contacted Inter to inquire into the availability of Alessandro Bastoni, according to a report in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the Citizens discussed the 20-year-old Italian with the Nerazzurri but were told quickly that he wasn’t for sale and a deal wouldn’t be possible. Inter CEO Beppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio want the player to become a pillar for the Nerazzurri over the next decade, the report continues.

Barcelona were also interested in Bastoni but no contact between the two parties has taken place. City also suggested something to try and tempt the Milanese side into giving up Bastoni, the report continues.

The English club would have offered 25-year-old Portuguese full back Joao Cancelo in exchange for Bastoni. Cancelo has struggled to earn consistent playing time under Pep Guardiola in England this season, starting only six league games.

Bastoni is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023 and if his strong performances continue then Inter would be willing to offer him a new contract, the report adds. The Nerazzurri believe in the 20-year-old Italian and want to help him develop further.
