A report from Italian newspaper Repubblica analysed Inter’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Lecce yesterday.

The report details how the Nerazzurri faced a defensive-minded Lecce side, who initially lined up in a 3-5-2 formation before coach Fabio Liverani changed it to a 5-3-2 system.

The changed limited the space available to both of the Nerazzurri’s forwards, Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku, effectively nullifying the deadly duo.

Coach Antonio Conte finally had both Stefano Sensi and Nicolo Barella at his disposal, alongside Marcelo Brozovic, but Inter still suffered in the midfield despite having their first-choice trio available for the first time since 6 October.

Barella seemed a little lost and struggled to get into the game much. Sensi faired a little better but failed to truly surprise Lecce at any point.

Inter’s dropped points mean they are now only one point ahead of third-placed Lazio, who have a game in hand. If the Biancocelesti win that game then the Nerazzurri will drop to third place, putting even more pressure on Conte and the squad.
