Inter striker Matteo Politano’s willingness to join Napoli has allowed the Nerazzurri to focus on signing a backup to striker Romelu Lukaku, according to a report in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 26-year-old Italian forward is happy to make the move down to Naples, but Spanish forward Fernando Llorente has not been included in the current negotiations. The 34-year-old, who has scored four goals in 23 games for the Partenopei, is still useful to coach Gennaro Gattuso. Inter coach Antonio Conte is keen on Llorente, knowing his qualities from their time together at Juventus. A deal could still appear in the next week.

Due to the slow progress in the deal for Llorente, Inter are now returning to the idea of Olivier Giroud, the report continues. The 33-year-old Frenchman has only made seven appearances across all competitions for the Blues this season for a total of 282 minutes, scoring one goal in that time. He has not made an appearance for the club since November. Chelsea have dropped their requested fee down to €8 million, €3 million more than Inter offered.
