Chelsea are pushing to try and complete a move for Napoli’s Dries Mertens before tomorrow’s transfer deadline according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

The Premier League side have made an offer of €10 million for the 32-year-old, who is believed to be a target for Inter, but the Stadio San Paolo club are not convinced by this bid.

Mertens  contract is due to expire at the end of this season and Napoli have tabled him a two year contract extension worth €10 million. The player is however understood to be looking for closer to €15 million for a two year deal in what will probably be his last big contract of his career.

The report goes on to add that if Mertens is to arrive at Stamford Bridge, it would free Olivier Giroud to leave the club.

The Frenchman has drawn strong links to Inter in recent weeks but Inter cooled their interest recently due to being unwilling to pay so much for the 33-year-old.

Giroud, as per the report, could end up at either Tottenham Hotspur or Lazio.
