Antonio Conte’s Inter looked to beat their winter blues and correct the dip in form where they have drawn 3 out of their first 5 matches in 2020.

The first half play looked bleak but Fiorentina rarely threatened to score. Inter rode their luck to go in with a lead thanks to a Candreva goal just at the stroke of half time.

The attacking play improved after the break but it needed a sensational Barella volley to book a place in the semifinal of the Coppa Italia against a resurgent Napoli.

Samir Handanovic – 6.5: Busier than usual. Faultless on the goal and a brilliant save off Vlahovic when the odds were against him. No other miraculous saves were needed.

Diego Godin – 6.5: One of Diego’s better games. Looked like the player that won almost everything at Atletico Madrid. Still not sure if he gets into Conte’s first choice starting lineup.

Andrea Ranocchia – 6: Defensively very stable and solid in the 3 man system. His passing into the front 3 reminded Interisti of the ocean that separates in class between him and de Vrij.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6.5: Another solid outing in front of Azzurri coach Mancini. Looked comfortable and looks like he belongs at the top most level. One bad pass all throughout.

Antonio Candreva – 6.5: His first half was atrocious. Took too long on the ball and didn’t create anything in a system that is custom built for him. Then stayed alive on the goal.

Matias Vecino – 6: Whenever the ball went to Vecino in the first half, it almost always led to a giveaway due to a poor touch or pass. Still more dangerous off the bench.

Nicolo Barella – 7.5: In the 3-4-1-2, Barella has more time on the ball. This means he can ooze class. It was the Nicolo Barella show. Defense, passing, technique and goal, he’s knows how to do it all.

Ashley Young – 6: Stable defensive work. Still gelling into the attacking movements and was conservative while going forward. Could have got another assist.

Alexis Sanchez – 5.5: Sure the passing to him was atrocious, but his touch was rusty and it cost Inter the possession plenty of times. Inter are gambling on him as backup.

Lautaro Martinez – 6: Looked like Il Toro was playing within himself, a few good touches in the first half but that was about it. Came alive after half time. Inter will miss him in the next two Serie A matches.

Romelu Lukaku – 6: Hardly involved in the first half. The service to him was shockingly poor. The team didn’t utilize his attributes at all. Slightly better after half time.

Christian Eriksen – 6.5: Decent outing for Christian in his first game. Hopefully the stadium will feel like home soon. Inches away from getting his first assist to Lautaro.

Victor Moses – 6: Played 15 minutes but Inter weren’t looking to attack much. Positioning was decent and his pressing was good. Understands Conte and his system very well.

Sebastiano Esposito – N/A: Played 6 minutes and should have converted that cross from Vecino. Ran and did his defensive bit as well. More outings for him, please Mister.

Antonio Conte – 6: Decided to go aggressive with his starting lineup, but the attacking play remained poor. Inspired some creativity from the front line after halftime.

Daniele Doveri – 6.5: Very rigid and got most decisions right. Maybe Caceres’ goal deserved a closer look for a foul. Soft free-kicks awarded to both teams.

Inter – 6: The Nerazzurri were very lucky to go into the break in the lead, as their attacking play wasn’t inspiring. Need to work on getting that clean sheet feeling back.
