Inter failed to sign Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud last month, but the Nerazzurri are still looking to acquire the player on a free transfer in the summer, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how both Inter and title rivals Lazio are keen to sign the 33-year-old Frenchman in the summer, when his contract expires with Chelsea. The Nerazzurri’s management had already reached an agreement with Giroud for a contract that would last until 2022 and would consider offering him the same deal again, if not adding on an option to extend it until 2023.

Lazio are set to provide strong competition for Giroud’s signature, the report continues. The Biancocelesti’s sporting director, Igli Tare, flew to London yesterday in order to try and reach an agreement with the player. Chelsea themselves decided not to give away the player, due to a lack of a replacement being brought in.
