Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini discussed Inter midfielder Matias Vecino in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Sportiva yesterday.

“I’m glad that Vecino stayed at Inter, it can be very useful. He can make a difference on headers and score some heavy goals as well.”

The 28-year-old Uruguayan, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, was close to a move away from the Milanese club last month, with Premier League side Tottenham interested in him. However, the Nerazzurri didn’t want to remove the midfielder without a strong replacement lined up.

Vecino has made 18 appearances across all competitions so far this season for a total of 1226 minutes. In that time, he has scored two goals and provided one assist. He has failed to appear in Inter’s last three league games due to his position on the transfer list, however he did play for the Nerazzurri in their Coppa Italia clash against Fiorentina earlier this week.

Last season Vecino made 40 appearances across all competitions for the Milanese side. In that time, he scored five goals and provided two assists, with one of the goals being key in a 2-1 Champions League win over Tottenham.
