Former Inter and Juventus coach Marcello Lippi discussed the Nerazzurri’s season so far and their January transfer market moves in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Let’s forget about small or long distances. What matters is that Inter have made the necessary moves to complete the squad and stay at the top of the league table.”

The 71-year-old Italian then spoke about Inter’s season so far and their lack of Champions League football.

“It’s not by chance that they’ve been up there since the start of the season, first, second, just a few points off Juve. They are keeping up the pace for the Scudetto, like Lazio, and have no Champions League commitments, even though there is the Europa League.”

Lippi touched on Inter’s three January acquisitions.

“Conte needed men of international standing who could make the leap in quality: two outsiders like Young and Moses who raise the level of the league, and especially Eriksen in midfield.”

Finally, Lippi spoke about the title race with Juventus and Lazio.

“Inter know they can go all the way to the end. The Scudetto is a three-way battle, but Juve must be given a few more percentages for ambition, strength, quality and, at the moment, also points in the standings.”

Inter entered this weekend three points behind rivals and reigning champions Juventus. The Bianconeri lost their last game against Napoli last weekend but did win the other four games in their last five in the league. The Nerazzurri, on the other hand, have drawn their last three league games in a row, with coach Antonio Conte desperate to break the poor streak. Lazio are two points behind Inter in third place but have a game in hand. Inter’s only loss this season has been against the Bianconeri.
