Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola discussed his failed January move to Inter in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN yesterday evening, before the Giallorossi’s league clash against Sassuolo.

“I felt the trust as soon as I came back. The coach put me back to the left where I am better off. Since I came back, I’ve had an extra charge, I said so even after Genoa. It’s changed something inside me, I want to keep it that way.”

The 26-year-old Italian full back, who is contracted to the Roman club until 2024, has made 19 appearances across all competitions for the Giallorossi so far this season. In that time, he’s scored one goal and provided two assists. His season started slowly, in part to muscle issues, but he began to earn the confidence of coach Paulo Fonseca.

However, Spinazzola only made two appearances in the six games during December and the first half of January, leading to Roma considering exchanging the player with Matteo Politano. However, the deal fell through as Inter signed English full back Ashley Young.

Italian forward Matteo Politano eventually left the Nerazzurri last month, although he didn’t end up heading down to the Italian capital. Instead, the 26-year-old Italian joined Napoli on a loan deal with a buy obligation attached
