Former Inter and AC Milan manager Alberto Zaccheroni believes that this weekend’s Derby della Madonnina is not a decisive match for the season.

Sunday’s clash between the two great rivals will be the second time this season that the sides have faced off and AC Milan will be coming into this game seeking revenge after Inter won the derby earlier on in the season 2-0 thanks to Marcelo Brozovic and Romelu Lukaku.

“I would not say that it is a decisive match, especially for AC Milan who does not have any great ambitions,” the 66-year-old manager, who last managed the United Arab Emirates national team between 2017 and 2019, explained to the gathered reporters at a charity event in Milan on Monday night.

Zaccheroni managed AC Milan between 1998 and 2001 and won a single Serie A title during his tenure in charge of the Rossoneri. He meanwhile managed Inter between 2003 and 2004 but did not even spend a full season in charge of the Nerazzurri.

He proceeded to discuss the different states that both clubs find themselves in heading into this match at San Siro.

“Inter are the better side. They have changed a lot lately, including their manager. AC Milan are coming into this match badly because they are not picking up satisfactory results.

“They too have changed managers but they are still looking for a precise identify. AC Milan players have to find ways to raise the bar because often the result is the sum of individual performances.”
