Former Inter central midfielder Felipe Melo has spoken with Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of this weekend’s Derby della Madonnina between Inter and AC Milan to share his thoughts on the game.
Melo firstly spoke on how the season has went so far for his former employers and was full of praise for Inter’s in-form striker Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 20 goals in 29 games across all competitions this season.
“Inter are doing very well, now they have really important players, champions. Last year I said they had to sign Lukaku and now he is there, he is doing great. He is the weapon of this team,” he started.
He then went on to discuss the derby, his experiences with it and what he is expecting Inter to do on Sunday night at San Siro.
“The first game I played in the Nerazzurri shirt was the derby and we won it with thanks to a goal from Guarin. I immediately entered the hearts of the Nerazzurri fans and this was very important for me as everyone knows I have been an Inter fan since I was a child.
“From this derby, I expect only one thing and that is an Inter victory.”
The 22-time Brazilian international joined Inter in the Summer of 2015 from Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray and would spend 18 months on the club’s books before moving on to Palmeiras, where he remains to this day.
The tough tackling midfielder made 38 appearances across all competitions for Inter during his spell with the club during which he contributed a single goal and a single assist.
