In an interview with Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, Tom De Mul, the agent of Tottenham Hotspur centre back Jan Vertonghen, has discussed his client’s future.

The experienced Belgian international’s contract with the Premier League side is due to expire at the end of this season and Inter are one of several clubs to have been linked with a possible free transfer move for him.

“At the moment, we have no agreement, but we do not exclude anything. We are open to anything. There is a lot of interest from clubs wanting to take Jan for nothing but Tottenham also remains an interesting option for us. The door is still open. He is still very happy with Tottenham and feels great in London.

“He has a lot of respect for Tottenham and on the other hand, Tottenham has a lot of respect for us. This makes sense after almost eight years together, there is a strong bond. He still wants to get good results with Spurs after a difficult start, he wants to qualify for the Europa League or the Champions League and win the FA Cup.”

De Mul went on to conclude that whilst his client is now getting on a bit, he remains ambitious and has several goals he wishes to achieve before his career comes to an end.

“He is 32 years old, but still ambitious. It still has so many goals. Euro 2020 is, for example, an absolute priority. He wants to play at the highest levels in a high level competition for as long as possible. He is still very hungry.”

Vertonghen has been playing for Spurs since the Summer of 2012 and has since went on to rack up 307 appearances across all competitions for them.

The former Ajax player has made 22 of those appearances this season. In 1851 minutes on the field, he has scored one goal and tallied a single assist and helped Spurs to keep several clean sheets too.
