In an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb, Parma sporting director Daniele Faggiano has revealed that their interest in signing Sebastiano Esposito from Inter in January was not brought on by Roberto Inglese’s injury.
“Esposito had been in our thoughts even before Inglese was hurt. What can I say, maybe we were a little too far-sighted, but it is a negotiation that did not come about because of Inglese’s injury,” he explained.
Reports in the media in recent months have suggested that Faggiano could become Inter’s new sporting director from this Summer and take over from the long serving Piero Ausilio, whose contract expires then.
Faggiano then went on to deny that there has been any contact from Inter with regard to a possible management role within the club.
“Absolutely not, there has been no call. Indeed, I must say that these rumours made me a little uncomfortable on a personal level because I have had a good relationship with Ausilio, Baccin and Marotta for years. We are only enemies on the field.”
Faggiano then went on to insist that should calls arrive from Inter in the future, he hopes it is because of his work at Parma and not due to the good relations he also has with Inter manager Antonio Conte.
“It bothered me to hear that Conte should take me to Inter. We are friends, that is true but friendship is one thing and work is another thing. Given that in Parma I am fine, if calls are to arrive I want them to be for what I have done in my work.”
42-year-old Faggiano has held his current position with the Ducali club since December 2016 and was absolutely pivotal in helping Parma rise back up the leagues.
