Marcos Acuna is set to be offered a new contract by Sporting according to a report in today’s print edition of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

The Argentine international defender drew strong links to Inter during the recent January transfer window and Inter reportedly moved to sign him but they were unable to agree a deal with Lisbon based club Sporting.

Acuna is already under contract with the José Alvalade Stadium side until the end of the 2022/23 season and as per the report, his agent Pablo del Rio recently met with club officials to discuss extending his contract past that date.

With a new contract seemingly on the horizon, any possible exit looks to be off the cards for the time being.

The 28-year-old, who has been with Sporting since the Summer of 2017 following a move from Superliga Argentina outfit Racing Club, has made 25 appearances across all competitions this season to date.

In little over 2000 minutes on the field, Acuna has scored two goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
