Former Inter goalkeeper Sebastien Frey discussed the Nerazzurri, their season so far and their derby clash against AC Milan tonight in an interview with Italian media outlet FcInter1908 today.
“The derby is an important game for many reasons. Not only for the league table, it’s the match in Milan. I think Inter are good, they have a coach who is preparing the players in the right way. They’ve dropped a few points around but they’re definitely in the running for the Scudetto. It’s going to be a crucial game to keep Juve close.”
The 39-year-old Frenchman then discussed the potential absence of Inter captain Samir Handanovic, who is suffering from a finger injury.
“Inter would lose the captain and a charismatic player. He can always make a difference, with him there would be one less important player. If he’s missing, I want to think Padelli will be up to the task.”
The former Fiorentina and Parma shot stopper then gave his thoughts of Inter’s moves in the January transfer window.
“It was devastating. Usually it’s a time to touch-up a squad but Inter took some very important players. Eriksen is a great regista, Young has the right experience and comes from the Premier League as well as Moses who played in England in the past. They managed to improve an important squad anyway.”
Finally, Frey spoke about the recent spat between Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso and Juventus director Pavel Nedved, following on from the Bianconeri’s 3-0 win over the Viola last weekend.
“I’d like to close the matter without amplifying it further. I am of the opinion that when the president of Fiorentina speaks, the president of Juventus may have to answer him. I found Nedved’s statements completely out of place. A lack of respect. Commisso was not angry with Juve, but more generally with the system. You can agree or disagree, but it wasn’t up to Nedved to answer. I played for Fiorentina for six years and it bothered me what happened. I hope there will be a way to find a meeting point between the owners and the League. Those who talked about a new Calciopoli for me have gone too far. I hope there will never be anything like it again.”
Inter are currently 2nd in the league table after 22 games, sitting only three points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus. However, the Bianconeri lost against Hellas Verona yesterday, meaning that the Nerazzurri could return to the top of the league table if they beat the Rossoneri later tonight.
