Inter Midfielder Matias Vecino: “So Far I’ve Been Very Fortunate When Playing AC Milan”

Inter midfielder Matias Vecino discussed the Nerazzurri’s emphatic 4-2 derby win over rivals AC Milan in an interview with Italian broadcaster InterTV immediately after the game last night.

“In the second half we had the chance to score 2-1 immediately. We were aggressive and we directed the match in our favour.”

The 28-year-old Uruguayan midfielder then touched on what the Milanese derby means to him.

“I live the derby in a very special way: I don’t know why, but I feel an extra charge. I have been very fortunate when playing AC Milan. Hopefully we’ll keep it that way.”

Finally, Vecino discussed his ability to change important games for Inter.

“When there’s a special game, I imagine what can happen. This has a positive effect.”

Vecino, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until June of 2022, made his 20th appearance across all competitions for Inter in last night’s game. In that time, the player has scored three goals and provided one assist, being an important midfield option for coach Antonio Conte, who wasn’t initially convinced by the player.

Inter are now top of the league table after 23 games, tied on points with rivals and reigning champions Juventus, who lost to Hellas Verona 2-1 on Saturday. Lazio’s 1-0 win over Parma yesterday afternoon meant that there are now three teams within one point of each other at the top of the table.
