With Juventus losing at the Bentegodi, Inter had a golden chance of joining their bitter rivals at the top of the Serie A table. Standing in the way, however, were their city cousins who have been trending upwards in 2020 with the arrival of a certain Ibrahimovic.

Inter started the game timid and thought they had almost held on to an undeserving 0-0 draw until about the 40th minute when the giant Swede set up Rebic before adding another himself with virtually the last touch in the first half.

Whatever was said in the Inter dressing room during the break ensured that this derby turned into a classic that will be remembered for ages.

Daniele Padelli – 5.5: Milan had only 2 shots on target in the first half and both went in. A proper goalkeeper might have saved at least the first one. Nothing to do in the second half.

Diego Godin – 6: Outplayed by Ibra and co before the break. Couldn’t play out the ball and his only outlet was Candreva. Second half with a higher line was easier for him.

Stefan de Vrij – 8.5: Absolutely world class. It could so easily have been 4-0 in the first half without Stefan. He had no right to score that goal from that position.

Milan Skriniar – 6: Skriniar isnt used to being bullied like he was by Ibra. Lost the Swede many times and it cost Inter. The higher line helped him out like Godin.

Antonio Candreva – 6: Lacks the confidence to dribble past players which is what would have relieved the pressure. Unbelievably good tactically once he is confident.

Matias Vecino – 7: Made a few good runs and started a few moves but as usual. The difference was the final balls clicked. World class second half from Matias.

Marcelo Brozovic – 8: Was hounded out of the game in the first half in his bow as captain. Played the second like he was possessed by the football gods. Not a single mistake.

Nicolo Barella – 6.5: Struggled with the physicality of Kessie especially in the first half. Raised his level and was the silent killer alongside Brozo. Should have scored.

Ashley Young – 6.5: Ventured forward a bit too much at the start. Too bad the rest of the team weren’t in sync. Absolutely shut down his flank after the break with the right pressing.

Alexis Sanchez – 6.5: Gave it his all in the 3-4 times Inter’s midfield actually found him. Battled like a pitbull throughout and his never say die attitude brought the equalizer.

Romelu Lukaku – 7.5: Romelu got the ball and ran at Milan and always caused trouble. Created chances for his team-mates and never stopped working. Deserved his goal.

Christian Eriksen – 7: There is no doubt Christian is the new Sneijder at Inter. His derby bow was inches away from being almost as good. Made the game easier to manage.

Victor Moses – 6.5: Conte couldn’t have asked more in the 10 minutes he played. Stayed back and in position. Countered and delivered a perfect cross for Lukaku to finish the game off.

Cristiano Biraghi – N/A: Time wasting sub. His Inter heart is happy.

Antonio Conte – 5: For the second game in a row, the first half was poor. Inter have to work out a way to play against teams that press. Great half time talk, mister.

Fabio Maresca – 6.5: Had control of the game till about the 60th minute. Gave away too many yellow cards and soft fouls then. No major mistakes and good use of VAR.

Inter – 7: You can change the anthem, you can talk about mentality and/or bring monks to play for Inter. This club will forever be Pazza. What a comeback!
