Former Inter and Croatian national team defender Dario Simic has shared his delight at seeing compatriot Marcelo Brozovic wear the Inter captain’s armband.

Due to Samir Handanovic being absent with a hairline fracture to his finger, Inter manager Antonio Conte trusted Brozovic with the armband for Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina victory over AC Milan, a match in which Brozovic made a real difference as he scored the first of Inter’s four goals in their 4-2 win.

Brozovic became the second different player to Handanovic to have worn the armband this season following Milan Skriniar who took the captain’s armband in the Nerazzurri’s recent 2-0 Serie A win away to Udinese.

“It’s a great recognition, it’s not easy to be a captain in a club as big and as important as Inter,” he explained in an interview with 24sata.hr.

“This is an honour that only few players, especially foreigners, receive. He has grown and is among the best in the world in his position.”

Simic spent three years on Inter’s books between the years 1999 and 2002 and made 91 appearances in the Nerazzurri shirt prior to moving on to AC Milan. He contributed four goals in his time with the club and was unable to pick up any silverware.
